‘Hotspur' (D.C. Thomson) first appeared on 2nd . Sept. 1933. The stories in the first issue were Buffalo Bill's Schooldays, Japers of Red Circle, The Son of Scarface, The Swooping Vengeance, Colorado Kid, The Big Stiff and The Traiter of the Team.

The last ‘Hotspur' was number 1197 on 17th . Oct. 1959. It became ‘The New Hotspur' (now in picture format) the week after on 24th . Oct. 1959 and ran for 173 issues to 1963 when it dropped the ‘New'. It finally ended on 24th . Jan. 1981 (number 1110) when it joined with Victor to become Victor and Hotspur.

Characters/Stories.

The most famous of all Hotspur schools was Red Circle, dominated by the unpopular tyrant of Home House, Alfred Smug. There were three houses – Home House was for British boys (Homers), Transatlantic House was for Americans and Canadians (Yanks) and Colonial House was for boys from the Empire (Conks).

The Iron Teacher. 1972-74). Originally in the Hotspur 1941.
Wilson. (1976-80). Originally in the Wizard 1943-62 and Hornet 1964-76.
Nick Smith. (1976-80). Originally in the Rover 1945.
King Cobra. (1976).
Bernard Briggs. (1976-80). Originally in Hornet 1963-76.
V for Vengeance. (1976-80). Originally in Wizard 1942 and Hornet 1966-75.
