‘Wizard' (D.C. Thomson). Started 23rd . Sept. 1922 and ran to 16th . Nov. 1963 (number 1970). It then joined with Rover to become Rover and Wizard. On the 16th . Aug. 1969 the ‘and Wizard' was dropped from the title. The new picture story Wizard was launched on 14th . Feb. 1970 and on 20th . Jan. 1973 was joined by Rover to become Wizard and Rover. This ran to 24th . June 1978.

Characters/Stories.

The most famous character was ‘Wilson the Wonder Athlete' who arrived in issue 1029. (24/7/1943). W.S.K. Webb, a young sports reporter was on the scene when William Wilson , running barefoot in his black one-piece, came out of the Yorkshire moors to break the 4 minute mile barrier.

Bill Samson ‘The Wolf of Kabul' and his native servant Chung who battered anyone and everyone with his ‘Clicky-ba' (an old blood-stained cricket bat bound with copper and brass wire).

Limp along Leslie. A lame sheep farming footballer with a lame dog who won International sheep dog trials and led his team Darbury Rangers to Wembley in successive seasons.

Cast Iron Bill (1973-78). Britain's toughest goalkeeper was originally a long-running series in the pre-war Rover.

Spadger. (1925-56).

Nero and Zero. (1930-40). Comic strip.

J.A. Slade. (1937). Western.

V for Vengeance. (1942). Hornet 1966-75, Hotspur 1976-80.
